The Pfizer Children Health Centre has been developed following earlier experience in giving medical help to street children. Previously when a case was found the child was admitted to a private hospital in the city but it was realised that the period of hospitalization was much longer, and at greater cost, than it normally would be. Because the doctors could not guarantee the success of the post-operative or post-traumatic treatments if the child went back to the streets without the minimum hygienic conditions and proper medical care, they were forced to keep the child in hospital much longer than normal.

Pfizer Health Centre shelters/welcomes minors coming from families with no economic means of support, and who need permanent medical attention. There are around 20 children currently admitted in the Hospital, where they receive specialized medical attention, and a rehabilitation that will help their reintegration in society, and if possible, a better life with their families. Since 2004, this project depends on the collaboration of Pfizer, the biomedical company, that is participating in the construction and renovation of the Health Centre infrastructures. The Centre has enlarged its bed capacity in a 50%, and it has hired qualified personnel to take care of the children admitted.
